RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Virginia State Police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Interstate 95 southbound to Interstate 295 South in Henrico County early Thursday morning.

The crash occurred around 2:45 a.m. when the driver of a 2003 Freightliner tractor-trailer ran off the left side of the roadway striking the guardrail. The impact with the guardrail caused a fuel leak.  Approximately 30 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from the ruptured fuel tank.

The 37-year-old male driver from Miami, Fl., who was wearing his safety belt, was not injured in the crash.

The trailer is loaded with approximately 76,000 lbs. of plastic.

The left lane of I-95 southbound to I-295 South was to remain closed through rush hour to allow crews to clean-up the scene.

The scene has been cleared and traffic has returned to normal. The crash remains under investigation.
