A man in Louisa County was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl. Joe Leake, 36, is accused of taking a child to his home and molesting her before returning the girl to her family.
Investigators say Leake offered to take the little girl to the mall, but instead, he took her to his house in Montpelier.
"He had asked the mother if he could take her to a mall. She was trusting. He was a family friend," said Deputy Major Donald Lowe, of the Louisa County Sheriff's Office.
The child says it was there that the man sexually assaulted her. Leake now faces five charges, including abduction, aggravated sexual battery and forcible sodomy.
A search warrant shows a list of things investigators confiscated from Leake's house, including a bag with little girl's underwear inside it, unlabeled video tapes and dvd's, several cameras, a cell phone, and what could be described as drug paraphernalia.
As news of the arrest spreads in the small community, Louisa mom Tara Evans says it's unnerving.
"It's terrifying…You would never expect a family friend…I'm heartbroken, really, for any parent who has to deal with this situation," said Evans.
It's a situation that investigators say may not have been the suspect's first encounter with a child.
"We always look for other victims. Normally, it's not going to be this person's first time, or the first victim," said Lowe.
Investigators are asking anyone who believes Joe Leake has had contact with their child, to call the Louisa Sheriff's Office.
Joe Leake is scheduled to appear before a juvenile court judge tomorrow, for a bond hearing there.
