Henrico police search for suspect tied to rash of car-breakins

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

Police in the West End are searching for a man believed to be connected with a series of car break-ins. Henrico police say surveillance photos from the Walmart on Forest Hill Avenue show a man wearing a Dolphins hat attempting to use a stolen credit card. Investigators believe the card is from one of 27 vehicles raided in the West End since February.

Police say the blocks south of Patterson Avenue were targeted. In many cases, cars were unlocked, and wallets and purses were left in plain sight. In a few instances, car windows were smashed.

Longtime resident Bobby Speirs says most post people in the Roslyn Hills neighborhood have their guard up.

"(The thefts) have everybody concerned and looking out for each other," said Speirs.

"Not so shocked, but disappointed," said Debbie Robson, who lives in Glenbrooke Hills. Robson says she's going to take extra caution to lock her car doors.

Sarah Mayfield says her neighborhood association emailed a warning.

"They just let us know to start locking our cars at night, and bring all of our valuables inside or put them in the trunk," said Mayfield.

If you recognize the man in the surveillance pictures, or know anything about these car break-ins, contact Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
