A Downtown Richmond smash and grab suspect is now behind bars after multiple cars are hit overnight.
Police arrested Quinton Bernard Johnson along 2nd and Main Street. They say he was caught in the act.
"People having their items stolen from their car is one of my biggest problems," said Lt. Don Davenport. "Anything that you leave in plain view inside your vehicle you have got to know that it is enticing to somebody. You are creating an atmosphere where you just become the victim of an opportunity."
Police say 48-year-old Quinton Bernard Johnson smashed at least five car windows along 2nd and Main Street. He reportedly grabbed clothing items, coins, and even food left out in the open.
We caught up with a neighbor who heard the back to back car alarms sounding, but he ignored them at first.
"But then when I realized this [the alarm] has been going on for a while," said Andrew Ward. "I hope that's not my car."
The suspect skipped Andrew's car and hit every car around him.
"Maybe the fact that my car wasn't a target is a good thing," said Ward. "But does that say something about my car?"
Richmond Police say it all happened in less than two hours. They say officers were in the right place and the right time.
