Suspended Chesterfield custodian charged with sex crimes

Posted: Updated:
CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

A suspended Chesterfield Schools custodian says he's guilty of a number of child porn charges. Richard Tracy pleaded guilty to making child porn, having child porn, and taking indecent liberties with a child. This, after his own wife turned him in.

Tracy was a custodian at Elizabeth Davis Middle School. In court, we learned the offenses happened outside of school, that the 7-year-old victim was his neighbor and he would care for her.

The details of the abuse are graphic - Tracy would take pictures of the girl naked, focusing on her private parts. He alleges that she asked him to take them. Prosecutors also said he would take baths with her present and let her touch his private parts or take pictures and that he would kiss her.

At one point, prosecutors say he claimed it wasn't sexual. He was trying to help with her sex education. Prosecutors credit his wife for turning him in, otherwise they may not have known.

"You've gotta give her all the credit in the world," said Duncan Minton, Prosecutor for the County." I think she's a mighty brave person to do that, especially knowing that a breadwinner from her family is going to be removed from the home."

As part of the plea deal, Tracy will have to get a sex offender exam and the hard drives with pornographic pictures will be deleted.

Prosecutors do not believe there are any other victims at this time.

The following statement was given by Chesterfield County Schools:

"Mr. Tracy was immediately suspended without pay over five months ago as required by state law when an employee is facing felony charges. By law, as a condition of employment in a school division, an employee must not have been convicted of a felony."
