A Henrico man has passed away after being hit by a SUV early Monday morning.
Henrico police say Philip C. Marshall, 23, of Club Road was struck around 1 a.m. Monday on Hungary Road and Fairlake Lane near Springfield Road. He died late Monday afternoon. No charges have been placed at this time.
Police say they do not think speed was a factor, but they are still looking to see if alcohol played a part.
Screeching tires and a crash brought some neighbors running into the street.
"When we came out, the ambulance and the police were here, and it didn't look good," said Donna Plastino, who lives down the street from the crash scene.
Police say the driver of an SUV collided with a pedestrian, then crashed through a fence. The say two people were trying to cross the street - the first pedestrian made it through the intersection, but the second pedestrian was hit in the west-bound lane. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the SUV was also taken to the hospital with cuts to his head and face, but he is expected to be okay.
"It's a dangerous place, I've seen near misses," said Paula Lyell, another neighbor.
Many people who live in the area say drivers need to slow down. The traffic comes off busy Springfield Road, and neighbors say, at all hours, it's a street they try not to even drive across.
"I will not make this left here," said Plastino. "I won't do it. It's so dangerous. I've almost been hit a few times."
"We desperately need more lights out here," said Lyell.
The owner of the home didn't want to go on camera but said she's working with her insurance company to get the fence fixed.
Police say the driver has not been charged yet.
