COLONIAL HEIGHTS, VA (WWBT) -

The teen suspect accused in the fatal beating of a Colonial Heights man was in court Thursday.

22-year-old Rusty Mack was buried this week after spending several weeks in a coma and later dying after the vicious attack. Four people are now behind bars, including the teenager.

We are now hearing from the teen's father as his daughter faces murder charges.

The bond hearing came on her 18th birthday. The teen was granted $25,000 bond, but she remains in jail after an appeal.

"It did not go the way we had hoped," said Colonial Heights Commonwealth's Attorney Bill Bray.

Despite the emotionally charged case being well-documented in the media, a judge ruled the teen can be released. Bray has filed an appeal.

"She's young," said Bray. "She just turned 18. Who knows what she might do if she is released?"

We called the teen's father. He was less than pleased to learn we know his daughter's name, but we are choosing not to release it until she is charged as an adult.

"You all need to back off," said the teen suspect's father. "Just think about the Mack family, and the justice system works itself out."

He says he has watched the outpouring of emotions and has a message for Rusty's family.

"Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to the Mack family," said the teen suspect's father.

The teen, along with three others - including Mack's estranged wife - face mob by murder charges. Francis Blaha III is the only suspect who is not also facing first degree murder charges.

"It's just a really sad case all around," said Elizabeth Fields with the Commonweath's Attorney's Office."Anybody faced with both of these charges could face two life sentences."

"We are going for the maximum that we can get," noted Bray.

The teen's appeal hearing is set for next Wednesday. The three other suspects are all being held behind bars with no bond.
