Trees and power lines down on snowy day

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Road closed signs are in place for the night. A massive tree blocking the entire street, showing no mercy as it fell on Glenlea Avenue and Wood Street.

Earlier -- on German School Road this huge tree limb took the right of way and fell straight to the ground - blocking two lanes of traffic.

"I was glad it didn't hit any cars," said neighbor, Raquel Sileshi.

"Could have been potentially dangerous, it's a good thing there wasn't any traffic coming through that schools were closed today to eliminate some of that traffic," said neighbor, Sheldon Ballatt.

Power lines were also a problem. Police got several calls today about low hanging wires around the city.

But in Strafford Hills, live wires were on the ground and Dominion quickly responded.

"There was a branch from this tree that was hanging on this power line and it caught on fire and that's when the power went back out," said Meghan Carey.

Live wires came close enough to a car, now stuck in the driveway. Across town on Fairfield Avenue a tree limb hit an SUV on its way down.

"We was sitting in the house and we just heard a loud boom and when we ran outside and realized I got a big dent in my hood and the line is running from her car to my car," said Jaunika Taylor.
