Chesterfield County recognized for environmental accomplishments

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Chesterfield County adds two big environmental awards to its name.

The county won them for its maintenance of a fleet of vehicles - like school buses, fire trucks, and police cars.

The award considers the types of cars used, how they're driven, how they're maintained... among a number of other considerations.

Chesterfield County is one of only two localities in the nation to meet the certification for one award, and the only fleet in Virginia to meet the other.

"It shows our county government and citizens that we are trying to protect the environment," said Chesterfield Fleet Manager Jeff Jeeter. "With the environmental aspects of things in the county, we're looking out for everybody. Our streams and water, landfills, etc."

The county has roughly 2,500 vehicles to maintain.
