Chesterfield police are investigating a case where a woman's pet was poisoned. According to police, a woman told them a man tried to poison her dog on a walking trial in Rockwood Park last Wednesday.
Investigators said they are trying to find who did it and what he used to make the dog sick.
"Usually it's just a lot of fun here," said dog owner Ellen Reiser of Rockwood Park. "But there is always a danger of someone coming in that doesn't belong here. People who don't like dogs."
Chesterfield police said the man apparently told the woman, "I want to hurt dogs because a dog hurt my pet deer."
Then, she told investigators, the man threw something on the ground. Her toy poodle licked it and later became sick.
President of the Ruff House Dog Park Association Rebecca Rogers said after the apparent poisoning, dog park members cleaned the park in case something else poisonous was left for their pets.
"I'd do anything to keep them safe," Rogers said.
Police said the poisoned dog is OK. Officers said they should get an update from the dog's vet on Monday. That's when test results should be back to determine what made the dog sick.
