Police: Alcohol a factor in death of Henrico man in I-295 crash

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

A Henrico man was killed early Thursday morning in a crash on Interstate 295.

Virginia State Police identified the victim of the accident as Wayne L. Johnson, 33, of Henrico. They say he wasn't wearing a seat belt and believe alcohol is considered a factor in the crash.

Police say Johnson ran his 2007 Toyota Tacoma pickup off the right side of the road, striking the guardrail and sign post around 3 a.m. Johnson died at the scene, according to State Police.

The accident, just north of Route 5 in the southbound lanes, blocked several lanes for about an hour. All lanes are now back open.
