Richmond parents can sound off on recent gun scare at school

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Richmond parents will have a chance to weigh in on security procedures following a fight involving a gun inside a city school.

Richmond Public Schools announced it was looking to shake up security procedures after an 18-year-old pulled out a handgun during a fight with another student at John Marshall High School Friday, according to police. No one was injured, but the school went on code red lockdown and two teens were arrested.

Now, the school system is trying to figure out how the gun got past the metal detector and what they should do to prevent it from happening again.

Currently, students don't have to go through metal detectors during bad weather. Instead, they're brought indoors and random classroom searches are conducted. This security procedure will change, according to school officials.

Parents will have their say at a meeting at John Marshall High School at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
