Marshall Henderson came off the bench for the first time this season and scored 19 of his game-high 28 points in the first half with a school record-tying eight 3-pointers to lead Ole Miss to an 88-55 victory over Auburn in Tad Smith Coliseum on Saturday. Shaquille Johnson scored a career-high 18 points to lead the Tigers.
Henderson hit his first two 3-pointers to spark Ole Miss to a 15-6 lead just over five minutes into the game. The Tigers used a 6-1 run to get to within 16-12 after an Allen Payne steal and layin with 10:22 left.
The Rebels scored 12 straight points to extend the lead to 28-15 on a Henderson's third trey at 6:14 and Henderson's fourth trey helped extend the lead to 35-18. Henderson's fifth trey of the half put Ole Miss up 44-25 as he finished with 19 first half points. The Rebels led 44-27 at the half.
Ole Miss extended its lead to 60-36 just over 13 minutes to go and coasted from there. The lead grew to 68-38 with 9:40 left and then 84-52 on Henderson's school record tying eighth trey with 3:35 to go.
Auburn fell to 9-18 overall and 3-11 in the SEC while Ole Miss improved to 20-7 and 9-5.
Allen Payne added nine points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals for the Tigers while Frankie Sullivan had nine points and three assists.
Ole Miss outshot Auburn 54 percent to 39.3 percent from the floor and 13-of-25 (.520) to 3-of-18 (.167) from 3-point range. The Rebels were 21-of-26 from the foul line while the Tigers were 8-of-12.
Auburn plays at Alabama on Tuesday at 6 pm CT on ESPNU.
