Today friends and family held a memorial service for Brenda Gee-Knight, a woman whose remains went unidentified for more than a decade.
Knight was last seen alive on November 22nd, 2000, a full seven months before a canoeist found her skeletal remains in the Mattaponi River.
12 Investigates profiled her case earlier this month when the DNA test results came back as a match.
Today, a friend of the family, who spoke at the service, said everyone seemed relieved.
"For 12 long years the family has been searching for her, not knowing where she was," said Jerome Powell.
"I think you worry more, not knowing, than knowing actually what has happened. They seem to be at peace," Powell said.
Brenda's killer is still on the loose and authorities are still working to solve the case.
If you know anything, contact state police at (804) 553-3408.
