MECHANICSVILLE, VA (WWBT) -

Investigators in Hanover have arrested a mother in connection to a fire on Thursday in the 8200 block of Bultaco Trail.

Deputies tell us, 30-year-old, Kimberly Shepperson, has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding and arson related to a fire that was intentionally set inside of her residence.

Investigators with the Sheriff's Office and Hanover Fire Marshal's Office have determined that on the morning of the fire, Shepperson initially assaulted her 11-year-old son with an axe. They say she then set two fires inside of the residence with the intention of killing her 11-year-old, and her two remaining children, ages 10 months and 7-years-old, as well as herself.

The 11-year-old boy remains at VCU Medical Center, but is expected to make a full recovery.

The two remaining children have been released from the hospital and are being cared for by relatives.

Shepperson is being held at the Pamunkey Regional Jail without bond.

She is expected to be arraigned in Hanover County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on Monday, February 25.

The investigation into this incident is on-going.
