When it comes to our troops, there is no act of kindness too small. That's why one Richmond high school senior is working hard this week to send a special gift to those stationed overseas - the gift of music.
Kyle Liggans loves music. The St. Catherine's School senior says music has always played a big part in her life, and recently, it gave her a big idea for her senior independent project.
"I did a little bit of research on some service projects that people were doing that worked with the military, and there was one that was sending books and movies overseas. I thought, why not music?" said Liggans.
Her project is called "Tunes for our Troops", and Kyle's goal is to raise money by Friday, March 8 to buy 50 iPod Shuffles with pre-loaded music.
"Music is a great relief and stress release from that kind of environment," said Liggans.
Kyle decided to dedicate her project to troops after spending last summer at NASA Langley Research Center.
She would see them at the neighboring military base, and witnessed the things they do for our country each day.
Now, she wants to do something for them, and she needs your help to reach her goal.
Kyle says she wants this project to be less about her, and more about a community giving our soldiers a few tunes that could lift their spirits - at least for a few minutes.
"I'd love to send 50 iPod Shuffles, which is about $2700, but if I can send more than that, that would be fantastic," said Liggans.
