All lanes of Interstate 95 are back open following two separate crashes involving four vehicles.
Virginia State Police responded to the crash on I-95 southbound, south of Maury Street in the City of Richmond, around 3:30 a.m.
The crash occurred when the driver of a 2006 Chevy Malibu lost control of her vehicle, and ran off the right side of the roadway striking the guardrail. The Malibu crossed all of the southbound lanes, and ran off the left side of the roadway. The car struck the jersey wall before coming to rest in the left travel lane. A tractor-trailer then hit the vehicle.
A second crash occurred when a 2000 Toyota 4Runner attempted to avoid the initial crash, and sideswiped a 1998 Dodge pick-up. Both cars ran off the side of the road and hit a guardrail.
Two of the passengers inside the Malibu suffered minor injuries. One of those passengers was transported by ambulance to VCU Medical Center. There were no other reported injuries. Everyone was wearing their safety belts.
The crash remains under investigation.
