Two ramp closures on I-264 this weekend

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Postponed twice now, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet hopes to finally finish work on the I-264 ramps at I-64 on the east end this weekend, causing closures of those ramps this weekend.

Last week's scheduled closure of ramps from I-264 east and westbound to I-64 didn't happen because of subfreezing temperatures. This weekend warmer weather is forecast and work is scheduled to resume Friday, February 22nd.

Concrete repairs will continue on I-264 (Watterson Expressway) between the Browns Lane overpass and Westport Rd., causing the closure of the I-264 ramps at I-64, as well as one lane on I-64 over the Watterson Expressway.

The following exits will be closed from 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22 until 6:00 a.m. on Monday, February 25th. The exit ramp from eastbound I-264 to westbound I-64 (Exit 19B) and the exit ramp from westbound I-264 to eastbound I-64 (Exit 19A).

The closures will be in effect from 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22nd until 6:00 a.m. on Monday, February 25th.

The signed detour for the I-264 east to I-64 west exit (Exit 19B) will be to follow eastbound I-264 to the Westport Road exit (Exit 21) and at the bottom of the ramp turn left.  Motorists can access westbound I-264 and proceed to westbound I-64.

The signed detour for the I-264 west to I-64 east exit will be to follow westbound I-264 to the exit for Breckenridge Lane South (Exit 18A).  Once on Breckenridge Lane, motorists can immediately access eastbound I-264 and proceed to eastbound I-64.

Along with the ramp closures, the right lane of westbound I-64 will be closed at the I-264 overpass. This lane closure will be in place during the same time period as the ramps, from 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22nd until 6:00 a.m. Monday, February 25th.

The speed limit in the work zone will be reduced to 45 MPH and double fines will be enforced.

For the next few weeks, concrete repairs will be taking place primarily on weekends.  Lane and ramp closures are possible from 8:00 p.m. on Friday until 6:00 a.m. on Monday.

When pavement repairs require grinding later in the project, lane and ramp closures are possible on weeknights Monday – Friday from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. the following morning.
