Employees not told about robbery at Short Pump Towne Center store

Police are searching for three men who robbed a jewelry store at Short Pump Towne Center at gunpoint Monday evening.

The men entered the store around 8:45 p.m. and ran off with several items belonging to the store.

NBC12 found out some employees and shop owners are not happy that they heard about the crime from news outlets, and not the management company.

Officers tell NBC12  it happened at a store inside  the mall just before closing on Monday.  Officers are not releasing the name of the store.

"It is really terrifying you never know what's going to happen," says Jessica Davis who works at a dentist's office near by.

Terrified because this marks the second jewelry store robbery in just months, surveillance photos were taken in November when Kay Jewelers was robbed at gunpoint.  Police say that heist was also carried out by three men, but no arrests have been made.

"Of course we would be looking at any similarities between the two cases and this time it's too early in the investigation to say whether or not these are related," says Lt. Linda Toney with Henrico Police.

Inside the open air mall, we went to several stores and asked employees and store owners about the armed robbery.  They tell NBC12, nobody told them about it.

Davis says it's concerning.  "Absolutely!  I mean you definitely want to make sure that he people who need to know do know what's going on!" she said.

Mall management didn't want to comment on why they didn't inform other stores, but they did tell NBC12 they did not want us on the property to report this latest crime.  When NBC12 asked the property manager about any extra safety measures so that shoppers and store owners could feel safe, he said that information is not available to a third party and no comment.

The suspects are described as three black males, two wearing black hoodies and one wearing a hat with a yellow brim.

Henrico police haven't released any surveillance photos, yet, but are looking for information on the case. If you can help their investigation call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
