Shin splints

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - We are into spring training for runners and Dr. Larry Benson is seeing plenty of shin splints.

It is lower leg pain on the front of the lower leg, below the knee and above the ankle.

You can avoid shin splints with proper shoe wear and gradually increasing intensity and running distance.

If it does not get better over time, you may want to see your doctor to rule out compartment syndrome or stress fractures.
