Goochland man charged in police pursuit

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

A Goochland man is facing several charges after a high-speed pursuit with State Police that started in Goochland and ended on I-95 in Richmond.

Police tell us a trooper attempted to stop Mario Davis, 30, on I-64 near the Rockville exit for reckless driving around 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Troopers pursued Davis onto I-95 southbound where he lost control, hitting a guardrail, a jersey wall and two state police cruisers.

Davis is in the hospital with minor injuries. He is facing several charges including felony eluding police and possession of a firearm by convicted felon.

A man is in custody following a high-speed pursuit with State Police that started in Goochland County and ended in the City of Richmond. 

Around 9:22 a.m. Sunday, a trooper attempted to stop a vehicle for reckless driving on Interstate 64 eastbound near the Rockville Exit. 

The driver failed to stop for the trooper and continued on Interstate 64 eastbound at speeds over 100 miles per hour.  The man continued onto Interstate 95 southbound where the he crashed and struck two state police vehicles near the VCU/Broad Street, Exit 75, at approximately 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

The driver then attempted to flee on foot and was quickly apprehended. No troopers were injured in the crash.  The driver did suffer minor injuries as a result of the crash.

Two lanes of I-95 southbound were closed for about an hour Sunday. Charges are pending and the crash remains under investigation.

    A woman has died, after police say she was struck by a van in Richmond. Police say the woman was walking across the 1100 block of Azalea Avenue around 3 p.m. Saturday, when she was struck by a van turning left off Seminary Avenue. The driver of that van stayed on the scene. Police say the woman was already dead when they got to the scene. The driver is not facing charges at this time. The investigation continues, as police work to notify the victim's family.
