If you have a parking ticket you've been putting off - you better pay it soon. Three or more parking tickets can get you the boot. The orange boot will add another $60 to what you already owe the city.
"There are a lot of outstanding parking tickets, there are too many of them and though we have been ticketing all along and we've had a booting program we're kind of stepping things up," said Sharon North of Public Works.
North said there are nearly 3,500 vehicles that are eligible for the boot. If you tally up the number of tickets, it comes out to about 16,000 unpaid parking tickets.
The city says they want to collect and now have a better way of tracking you down. A new van purchased by Standard Parking Corporation is equipped with high tech cameras and a laptop. It's fully loaded and the whole thing costs about $60,000.
Our cameras got a ride along in the van to see exactly how it works. Every time the cameras catch a license plate on what they call the "hot list" it makes a sound then catches a photo, telling authorities to lock down the car with a boot.
The "Don't Get the Boot" campaign to enforce fines for outstanding parking tickets begins April 1.
