A former Farmville police officer faces attempted capital murder charges after a weekend standoff.
T.J. Long of Prince Edward County is accused of shooting at county deputies and a Virginia State Police trooper as they approached his truck. He surrendered after a standoff on farmland in the Abilene area of Prince Edward County.
The officers weren't injured. Long is being held at the Piedmont Regional Jail.
Authorities also are investigating an arson at a house that occurred shortly before the standoff. Police say the fire and the shooting stemmed from a domestic incident.
