Hopewell mother grieves teen daughter killed in car accident

HOPEWELL, VA (WWBT) -

A heartbroken mother in Hopewell is now planning her daughter's funeral after a tragic car accident.

Ikeyia Jones, 18, was killed early Sunday morning in Petersburg. She and two male friends crashed into a brick wall on the 500 block of Crater Road.

Dawn Jones, Ikeyia's mother, had her oldest child at just 13 years old. Jones says Ikeyia was not only her daughter, but also like a sister.

"It's a horrible feeling, a really bad feeling," said Jones. "It's what nobody wants to go through. I helped many people through situations like this, but now I actually know myself how it feels."

The family is still waiting for the crash team to put the pieces together. Ikeyia died at the scene. Her two friends are now in the hospital in serious condition.

"There's just so much good about her. She loved to eat, she loved to party, she loved her friends, she loved family, she just loved life," said Jones.

The family is still waiting to find out who exactly was behind the wheel at the time, and if speed or alcohol was involved. Police say the accident is still under investigation.
