Rough shooting dooms Spiders in loss to Saint Louis

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Saint Louis held Richmond to 23.3 percent shooting in handing the Spiders just their second home loss of the season, 56-46, Saturday night at the Robins Center.

Richmond made just 10-of-43 field goals in the game, including just 3-of-15 three-pointers as the Spiders scored 30 points below their scoring average in the previous 13 home games.

Despite the poor shooting, Richmond did close to within five with three minutes left in the game, but the Billikens (18-5, 7-2 Atlantic 10) were able to hold in the final minutes.

Junior Cedrick Lindsay led the Spiders with a season-high 20 points, making 4-of-9 field goals and 11-of-15 free throws. He was the only Spider in double-figures and one of just two double-figure scores in the game. Dwayne Evans led the Billikens with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Darien Brothers scored seven points and junior Derrick Williams had six points in his return after missing nine games with an ankle injury. Redshirt freshman Alonzo Nelson-Ododa blocked six shots, which ties for the sixth most blocks in a game in Spider history.

The Spiders (14-10, 4-5) hit the road Wednesday, as they travel to Philadelphia to face St. Joseph's.  Tip-off is set for 7:00pm.
