Virginia Union forces season split with Virginia State

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Calvin Brown hit a three pointer with 1:17 remaining and that proved to be the eventual game-winner for Virginia Union, as the Panthers topped Virginia State, 62-61, at the Siegel Center on Saturday night.

VUU, which trailed by 13 points with 10:39 to play, put together a fierce rally to storm back and earn the victory.  Brown's three-pointer was Union's first and only lead of the contest.

Ken Pankay led the Panthers with 16 points off the bench.  Brown and Juan Wilson each chipped in eleven to round out the Virginia Union players in double figures.  Kenny Mitchell led the Trojans with 15 points in the losing cause.  John Holleman scored 12 points and Allen Harris added ten for Virginia State.

Virginia Union had won 23 straight games against its arch rival before the Trojans beat the Panthers in January's Freedom Classic at Richmond Coliseum.
