Randolph-Macon earns ODAC win over EMU

Andre Simon led four Yellow Jackets in double-figures as Randolph-Macon topped visiting Eastern Mennonite, 85-71, Saturday afternoon in ODAC men's hoops action.

Randolph-Macon is now 14-9 overall and tied for fourth-place in the ODAC with a 9-5 league record.  Eastern Mennonite falls to 13-10 and 6-8 in league play.

Simon scored 20 points in his 30 minutes of action. Fellow starters Lamar Giggetts and Connor Sullivan had 15 and ten points, respectively, while Akeem Holmes knocked down three, three-pointers en route to eleven points off the bench for R-MC.  Dylan Cole and Joe Hassell each had nine points for the Yellow Jackets.  Holmes had a team-best eight rebounds in the win.

Randolph-Macon shot 52.5% for the game, making 31-of-59 shots.  R-MC also converted 20-of-30 attempts from the foul-line in the win.

With the score 14-8 in favor of the Jackets, R-MC went on a 14-4 run, upping its lead to 28-12 when Sullivan drained a jumper with 9:38 to go in the half.

EMU would battle back, cutting the Randolph-Macon lead to just eight points on a bucket by David Falk with five minutes to go.

Randolph-Macon closed the half on a 13-4 run with as a Simon basket as time expired sent the teams to the intermission with R-MC up 46-29.

A Giggetts jumper in the opening minutes of the second stanza bumped the Randolph-Macon lead up to 19 points.  The Yellow Jackets would maintain at least a 12 edge for the remainder of the game as it secured its 14th win of the season.

Eastern Mennonite got 15 points from R.J. Sims.   Andrew Thorne had 14 points, while Falk and Ryan Yates each had 11 off the bench for the Royals. Falk also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.  EMU shot 39.7%, making 25-of-63 shots on the afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Shenandoah for a 7:00pm tip-off.
