Williams set to return as Spiders host Saint Louis

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Derrick Williams has been sidelined since spraining his right ankle on December 29 in Richmond's game against Davidson.  He's missed nine games in all, but Saturday he's set to make his return as the Spiders host Atlantic 10-leading Saint Louis at the Robins Center.

Williams has been practicing and has a good chance of playing against the Billikins, according to Richmond head coach Chris Mooney.  His absence has forced several young Spider players to step up, including Alonzo Nelson-Ododa and Deion Taylor, and the team has held its own without its big man, going 5-4 during the stretch.

Williams has averaged 13.6 points and 6.8 rebounds in the 14 games he's played in so far this season.  His return will give the Spiders a much-needed inside presence going forward in the final eight contests of the regular season.

Richmond is 4-4 in the Atlantic 10 and will face a Billikins team that is 6-2 and in a three-way tie for the conference lead.  The Spiders have excelled against the best in the A10, holding a 3-1 record this season against teams with at least a share of the conference lead.

Tip-off is set for 6:00pm Saturday at the Robins Center.
