HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

An elderly woman in Henrico calls 12 for help after she was robbed while grocery shopping.

Florence Brightman says the theft happened around 3 p.m. at the Walmart on Brook Road. The thief got away with a wad of cash - and some items the 89-year-old says, she just can't replace.

"I was sick. I was so. I didn't know what I was doing. I just ran," said Brightman.

Florence came to the Walmart along Brook Road to grab some groceries - she had her purse sitting in the top of the basket. In the time it took her to open the trunk and put the groceries inside her car, she turned around and found her purse gone - with a $100 bill inside and four pictures of her children that can't be replaced.

"I have four kids, scattered to the four winds, and so I have their pictures in there with me all the time."

Florence is a proud veteran who served her country and laments how time has slowed her down. In fact, she was so upset about the theft, she left her walking cane in the basket. It was later returned by the store, but still no sign of her purse.

Florence still can't believe how quickly the thief got away with her bag.

"Right, I mean I turned around and put a bag in the car, and it was gone."

Florence was not hurt. She says she just wants her pictures back. If you have any info, call Crime Stoppers - 780-1000.
