Governor Bob McDonnell says he's moving forward with the recommendations from his Campus Safety Task Force, and he hopes lawmakers act on them right away.
In a letter to the General Assembly, McDonnell says he believes the recommendations will make schools and campuses safer in the Commonwealth.
He wants the General Assembly to make changes in the budget to fund these programs.
Some of the recommendations include allocating funding for school security upgrades, tougher penalties for people who obtain guns illegally, and expanding mental health services.
