Police are linking a double shooting in western Henrico to another crime in the county! The man who survived, after being shot, is talking only NBC12.
It all happened January 12 at the Old Bridge apartment complex off Hilliard Road.
John Sanchez shouldn't be here right now. He survived being shot and doesn't know what kind of permanent damage he will have to live with. What he does know is that the suspects used his stolen credit card and there are surveillance photos to prove it.
"I could hear the footsteps then, bang, bang bang," he said. "They shot three times."
John says three men barged in, stole a number of items, then fired a gun before leaving.
"I got hit in the back and my friend got hit in the leg," said Sanchez.
Both men survived.
The 25-year-old now needs to be cared for around the clock. It's a job now left to his mother, who did not want to be identified. She says she's afraid of the people who went after her son.
"You want to fix it, you want to go back and change that for your son, but you can't, and I'm glad that he's still here with me," she said.
Doctors say the bullet missed his spine by half an inch, but shattered his tail bone and went through his stomach.
"All of this hurts. This all hurts," he said.
Now police say they have connected the shooting to another crime. Detectives say surveillance photos show two men and a woman who used john's stolen credit card at a jewelry store on Laburnum Avenue.
Police tell us they don't know if these people are involved in the shooting-- but they may know something that could help solve this case.
"How would they feel if this happened to them unnecessarily, and they went though all these surgeries and they had these medical bills coming in?" she said.
John says he doesn't know who did this, but with his injuries confining him to a chair or bed, it looks like he will have a long time to wonder why it happened.
John says doctors will check on his recovery after three to five months. In the meantime he hopes someone will come forward to help find the man who almost took his life.
If you recognize the people in that photo call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000. Remember tips are anonymous.
