"Kings Dominion" school bill dies in General Assembly

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

A bill that could change if schools start before Labor Day won't be going far this year in the General Assembly. That bill died in a Senate education committee.

The bill allows school districts to make the call when to start school, without permission of the State Board of Education.

According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, only four of the 15 committee members voted for the bill, but that vote is far different from a recent public poll conducted by VCU.

The poll found nearly 70% of parents supported the option of starting school before Labor Day.
