Two men attacked a senior at Benedictine College Preparatory Tuesday, ambushing the student in the shadow of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
The incident happened in an alleyway in broad daylight, shortly after school dismissed. According to Headmaster Jesse Grapes, two men in their twenties beat the student without provocation – an incident the school's leader has never seen in the Museum District.
"In three years at Benedictine, this is the only incident of this nature that's occurred, with any student in this school," Grapes said in an interview Thursday. "Fortunately, he's doing well. He's not in the hospital, he's with his family. And we expect him to return to school, daily."
The attack left the student unconscious. When he woke in the alleyway, he called his parents, followed by Richmond Police. Investigators continue to review the case, and no suspects have been named.
