Chief Bryan Norwood will be staying with Richmond Police after being passed over for a job as head of Raleigh's Police Department.
Raleigh's City Manger J. Russell Allen announced the decision Thursday morning. Cassandra Deck-Brown, who was serving as Interim Police Chief will take over as Raleigh's Chief of Police Friday.
"After a national search process, I am happy and proud to select our City's next Police Chief from the ranks of the Raleigh Police Department. Deputy Chief (Interim Chief) Cassandra Deck-Brown has demonstrated her professionalism, commitment and dedication to the citizens of Raleigh and the staff in the Police Department over a career of law enforcement service," Allen said in making the announcement. "I am confident she will both continue and build upon the department's record of public safety effectiveness and community outreach."
Chief Norwood was one of 48 applicants for the position and one of only three finalists for the post. He attended a public forum in Raleigh on January 24 to answer questions from citizens about the position.
"Cassandra Deck-Brown is an excellent choice to be the next Chief of Police for the city of Raleigh," Chief Norwood said. "I wish her all the best as she leads that impressive agency into the future."
