Dozens gather to remember a store clerk killed in Henrico

Dozens of people gathered outside the Expressway Convenience store near Mechanicsville Turnpike Tuesday night. They held a prayer vigil for 64 year old Farooq Bhimdi.

Members of the heart-broken Eastern Henrico community set up a makeshift memorial and called on a higher power to aide officers in tracking down the man responsible for gunning down store clerk Farooq Bhimdi.

"You said we have not because we have not," prayed members at the vigil. "In the name of Jesus, we pray that you bring this murderer to justice Lord."

Henrico Police made an arrest possibly connected to the shooting just down the street from the store on the 3800 block of Howard Street.

The possible arrest in connection to the case is being called "good police work." It came within 24 hours of the shooting and just after prayers were lifted, candles lit and tears shed at a well attended vigil for the beloved clerk also called Mr. Bean for his resemblance to the movie character.

"He was a beautiful person. Everybody loved him," said Shanta Johnson. "He never did nothing wrong to nobody."

This friend to the community was shot at least three times and left to die in what police say was an attempted robbery.

"It's upsetting. I can't even believe it now," said Shanta. "It don't make no sense."

People at the vigil had choice words for the suspect.

"All murderers need to die and go to hell and meet their maker," said a person in attendance.

NBC 12 did speak to the family before the arrest was made. They said they are still in shock and not ready to comment.
