Store clerk shot and killed in Henrico attempted robbery

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

Police are investigating the deadly shooting of a store clerk at a convenience store in Henrico.

Shots were fired at the Express Way Convenience Store near Mechanicsville Turnpike and Byron Street, not far from Laburnum Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Monday. Officials say a man attempted to rob the store, shot the clerk three times and took off.

Upon arriving at the scene, police found the clerk lying on the floor and sent him to VCU Medical Center in critical condition. He died at the hospital a short time after. The victim's name is not being released.

The clerk's identify is not being released at this time pending notification to his family.  

The suspect is a black male, 18-20 years old, 140 pounds wearing a brown jacket.

Police said they're searching for a one suspect in connection to this case. Investigators encourage all anonymous tips can be called in to Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
