Hokies' Exum suffers torn ACL

Posted: Updated:
BLACKSBURG, VA (WWBT) -

On January 9, Antone Exum pleased many Hokie fans by announcing that he would return to Virginia Tech for his senior season.  Now Exum's chances of starting that season on time are in jeopardy.

The Deep Run graduate tore his ACL and lateral meniscus during the weekend.  Several reports say Exum suffered the injury while playing pick-up basketball.  Surgery could happen as early as Thursday and he'll be out 6-9 months.

Exum led the Hokies with five interceptions during the 2012 season and was second nationally with 21 passes defended.  He was also fifth on the team in tackles and made a transition from safety to cornerback.
