Henrico's longtime County Manager will officially retire on Wednesday, but he's not leaving his post without one major push for the county.
Virgil Hazelett is urging state lawmakers to allow Henrico County to impose a meals tax without a voter referendum.
Henrico will need the General Assembly to change the law to allow Henrico leaders to add a meal tax.
While many restaurant owners and retail groups oppose the meals tax hike, Hazelett says its necessary. He says that the county still needs more revenue leaders. Henrico County has already made substantial cuts without laying off teachers or eliminating major county services.
