RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

An NBC12 viewer is coming to the aid of a Richmond father and his young children. Their rent money was stolen by three armed men at their home along Ambrose Street.

It was the tears of a child, still emotional after having to beg robbers to stop beating her father, that got the attention of a longtime NBC12 viewer.

Theresa Swann is a Senior VP with Bank of America. She was determined to help Sharod Blakey and his family after watching our story. The family was robbed at gunpoint in their own home on the 2300 block of Ambrose Street. Three men took the money dad had set aside for rent.

Theresa took out her checkbook and called 12 wanting to cover the month's rent. We set up the meeting, but Theresa had an even bigger surprise.

"How about we pay two months?" said Theresa with a smile.

"No tears came out of my eyes until I talked to you today on the phone," said Sharod. "That's when everything just hit me."

Theresa was happy to help.

"You know everybody in this economy is one paycheck away from disaster," said Theresa. "I saw an opportunity to help someone who was trying to do the right thing and raise his children."

Blakey was robbed of at least $200. His children were robbed of their sense of security.

"If this can help make it a little easier so they don't have to stress about whether they buy a meal or pay the rent it's the least I could do," said Theresa.

Theresa surprised the family with more than $400.

"Thank you very much," said Blakey.

"You made my day," said Theresa. "It was nice to meet you."

Detectives say they are making good progress in the case. There are three suspects: one was 5 feet, 6 inches tall with a slim build, about 30 years old with close-trimmed facial hair and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans and brandishing a handgun. One suspect with a handgun was said to be about 20 years old with a medium build and wearing a pull-over mask. The third suspect, brandishing a shotgun, was described as about 27 years old, 6 feet tall with a slim build, a goatee and all black clothing.
