VCU earns AP ranking for first time since 1985

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

VCU entered the Associated Press Top 25 on Monday, snapping a 28-year drought in that particular poll.

Not since March of 1985 have the Rams seen their name in the AP rankings.  That's when they finished eleventh in the final poll of the 1984-1985 season.  No player on the current VCU roster was born to remember that occurrence.

This year's Rams team is 14-3 and has won eleven straight games.  It's only losses have come to Wichita State, Duke and Missouri.  VCU also climbed to 19th in this week's USA Today Coaches Poll, improving from last week's ranking of 24th.

VCU returns to action on Thursday as the Rams host St. Joseph's at 9:00pm.  Shaka Smart's club is 2-0 in Atlantic 10 play, while the Hawks are 1-1.
