The family of a 17-year-old boy is praying he'll recover after he was hit by a city vehicle while riding his bike.
According to a source on the scene, the George Wythe High School student was riding his bike in the 3000 block of Columbia Street when the city vehicle struck the boy, then fled the scene around 3 p.m. Monday afternoon.
According to his family, Du'Wayne Guess was riding his bike to his brother's home nearby.
Du'Wayne's mother has a message for the person who hit him.
"I just want them to come forward because that's a child, he's mentally challenged, that's my son," she said. "He could've died. You ran over him and then you left him."
DuWayne's mom says her son has autism.
The boy is at VCU Medical Center with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
Richmond Police are looking for a white, box truck. If you have any information about this crime, you're urged to call Crime Stopper's at 780-1000.
