Huguenot Bridge to go down to one lane for six hours

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

The Huguenot Bridge will have only one lane open during part of the morning and afternoon hours Thursday. It's all part of work to finish the new bridge by this summer.

This will be occurring primarily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Flaggers will be here alternating northbound and southbound traffic for six hours between. Northbound traffic will be flowing for 15 minutes, and then southbound traffic will be flowing for 15 minutes. Could be frustrating, especially if you're in a hurry.

Crews are working on the other side of the new bridge that's under construction. Only half of it as of now is open to traffic. The other half will open this summer.

When referring to the old bridge decommissioned last year, Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones said you needed to say a prayer each time you crossed it.

When the $54 million bridge is all done, it'll be twice as wide as the old Huguenot Bridge, with two more lanes.
