All stores at the Shoppes at Bellgrade are back open after a gas leak forced evacuations Wednesday morning.
An elderly woman crashed her car into the side of the Great Clips around 10 a.m., apparently because she hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes according to Chesterfield Fire officials. The car struck a gas meter and cut the 1" gas line near the ground, allowing gas to flow freely into the air.
The Great Clips, River City Diner, Shell station and Wells Fargo, which all face Huguenot Road, were all evacuated. Workers with Columbia gas were able to shut off the gas line around 12:05 p.m.
The driver will not be charged.
