RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Sports Backers is preparing for its 14th annual Monument 10K. Once again the event is expected to get close to its capacity of 40,000 runners. Early registration lasts until January 31st and the price goes up each month. The race is April 13th.
There are some changes for this year. Now there are more qualifying waves - you have to have a pre-existing time to get into all waves under 63 minutes. Plus, there will be more shuttles for parking to make it easier to get in and out. Also Sports Backers has added the 10K crew, an easy way online for runners to recruit friends and family to run.
Sports Backers Executive Director Jon Lugbill estimates that 70-75,000 people participate on race day, between the runners, workers and fans. That makes it the largest sporting event in the state of Virginia.
