Redskins garb going fast

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

It's a football frenzy for many stores selling Redskins gear. Now that the team is in the playoffs, the excitement from this surprise season is spilling over to the cash register.

In fact, some stores are having a tough time keeping merchandise in stock.

Soon there may be a different kind of RG3 - all Griffin Garb Gone. At least that was the case yesterday. So far Friday, there are still a few jerseys left.

Sydney Dupriest and her dad will really have something to celebrate if the Skins win Sunday. Right now, they're just excited to find an RGIII jersey.  Thursday, they came up dry.

"They said they were getting some in today so I thought we'd come in and try," said Rand Dupries.

Store Manager, Chuck Bowen says sales have at least doubled since before Christmas. That means the jerseys here could sell out by Saturday. The phone has been ringing off the hook just about as quickly as these items have been soaring off the rack - during what is usually a slow period at Disco Sports.

"It's a lot. It's an awful lot of calls because, again, it's so hard to get the stuff," said Bowen. "We were really excited to get the Russell and the RGIII jerseys in today. This was huge for us.

The famous number 10 jersey is flying off the shelves, but if you're not a RGIII fan, there's plenty of Seattle Seahawks gear to support Richmond-native Russell Wilson, who's going up against RGIII Sunday.

The $100 price tag doesn't seem to be stopping anyone either.

"No, it doesn't surprise me," said Dupriest. "Redskins fans have been starving for this for a long time so I think they'll pay whatever they need to."

The last time Disco Sports saw numbers this high was back in 2007 - when the Redskins made the playoffs.
