Students fight bullies with kindness

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

Chesterfield students and graduates are killing bullies with kindness. It's all happening on Twitter, after a series of mean and cruel tweets made first. Many of the tweets were too sexually explicit to share.

But these new Twitter profiles focus on compliments and encouragement. They're named @cfieldsfinest and @letschangeitup. Scroll down the profiles and you'll find compliment after compliment. And it's having an impact.

One user wrote: "Who ever is behind @letschangeitup has the biggest heart ever and they are beautiful inside and out. :) "

We spoke to both of the people behind these handles with the promise that we keep their names out of it and focus on the message. We can tell you this. One is a senior Chesterfield student who said,  "I'm just trying to help everyone see how beautiful they really are. And also see that they shouldn't worry about rumors."

The other is a recent graduate who is ready to help heal her former classmates. This user said, "I got started with this account, because I was tired of the negativity from the burn books. I hated seeing people get put down, so I decided to do something nice."

And they're not the only ones. Caroline Haley is a senior at Deep Run High School. She is the brains behind @deeprunlove, another site used to support and compliment classmates.

"I wanted people to know that people love each other at Deep Run," Haley told us.

She started the account anonymously too, but it grew 300 likes in the first day and soon she had to reveal her identity to ask others for help with the account.

"I've seen a lot of people be mean to each other through Twitter and I think that it was a positive change because people were being nice to each other for once," said Haley.

And the students have been nice over and over and over again on all of these accounts.
