MLS star De Rosario spreads soccer knowledge

Posted: Updated:
ROCKVILLE, VA (WWBT) -

Dwayne De Rosario has had success on the professional level, and at the national level, and this week he's sharing his knowledge of soccer with Richmond-area kids.

"DeRo" is spending three days teaching kids at OwnTouch, a soccer facility in Rockville. De Rosario plays for the DC United of the MLS, was league MVP in 2011, and is the all-time scoring leader for the Canadian national team.

The camp features De Rosario's own cutting-edge curriculum including player-to-player marking, positional awareness and tactical defending. De Rosario leads youth athletes through sequential stages of development training while paying close attention to communication and self-confidence.

The camp was only open to some of the most talented soccer players, ages 6-18, in Central Virginia.

De Rosario says that he does just a handful of these types of camps during the offseason.  He enjoys teaching young kids about the game, and urging them to get out and play.
