This disorder may happen after real-life exposure, or indirectly through media exposure, to traumatic events. It is a case of reliving trauma through upsetting memories, nightmares and flashbacks.
There is no way to prevent this, but symptoms usually start within three months of the trauma.
Cognitive behavioral therapy, group therapy and medications can be beneficial. You should see your doctor if symptoms are interfering with your life, job or relationships.
