Dozens of people searched for a new way to get to work Tuesday, after vandals caused thousands of dollars in damage on New Year's Eve.
Hopewell Police say 19 cars were vandalized on six blocks between 9 p.m. New Year's Eve, to 6 a.m. New Year's Day. The vandalism began on Jackson Street, extending to Lee, Gordon, Johnson, Grant and Pickett streets
Resident Jerry Pardew had six tires slashed on three of his cars, and said in an interview Tuesday he doesn't know how he will come up with $1,000 to replace the tires.
"I made the discovery as I was about to go hunting New Year's Day," Pardew said. "What a way to start the new year... at around 5:30 in the morning no less."
Total damage is estimated at more than $6,000 and could climb as more damage is reported.
Hopewell's Police Chief, Chief John Keohane is asking anyone who may be able to provide any tips to call the police department at (804) 541-2280.
