PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) -
Petersburg Public Schools' new leader is settling in.
Dr. Joseph Melvin is the school system's new superintendent. He took over the position on December 3, 2012.
The school board announced his appointment in September. The Norfolk native replaces Alvera Parrish, who announced her resignation in April.
Dr. Melvin is the former superintendent of the Essex County School System.
